Vegan meets African meets Italian – Atayacaffe is a place to relax, get together and eat really good food.
I was searching for a vegan place, anything but Asian cuisine, because that is always easy to find in Berlin. I think in Friedrichshain you will find an Asian restaurant or a burger place around each corner. So I wanted to try something new and discovered Atayacaffe in Prenzlauer Berg.
My boyfriend and I were very warmly welcomed by the owners Elisabetta and Bachir on a rainy Saturday. The colorful and eclectic furniture is super cozy; there is also a big bookshelf and a corner with toys for children. It looks really more like a living room.
Every day, there is a selection of four to six dishes, all vegan. We could choose between Hummus Plate, African Bowl, Salad Bowl, Pasta Fresca, and Curry Dakar. And, for the small appetite, they also offer panini and bagels with all different kinds of ingredients, like smoked tofu, avocado, hummus, vegetables and so on. And on top of that, vegan desserts like chocolate banana, blueberry cheesecake, apple cake, tiramisu and a sugar-free strawberry cheesecake – need I say more? I wanted to taste it all!
We ordered the African Bowl and the Hummus Plate. The African Bowl had a very spicy flavor, not too much though, it really tasted very good together with the creamy peanut butter sauce, couscous, green salad and an onion-chili-chutney. The Hummus Plate was exactly what I wanted, a big portion of homemade Hummus with avocado, grilled vegetables, green salad and delicious bread. The portions were so big that I could not try any desserts in the end. I will try some next time, or maybe this is up to you? We are looking for food enthusiasts who also love to write and would like to join our community. So come on, join our Picky Eaters Community!
