Momos organic veggie dumplings

PRICES: “Momos Experience”, 24 dumplings with three sauces, 14.9€. Makes two people happy.

VIBES:  Easy-going, good music, industrial, wooden walls and a lot of plants.

DOWNER: Momos is a self-serve restaurant. If you really want to enjoy full service, this could bother you.

PICKY NOTES: All dishes are organic and vegetarian. Most of the dumplings also vegan. You can e.g. have a “Momos Experience” set that is fully vegan.

Momos is a self-service restaurant in Berlin Mitte where you can enjoy delicious organic veggie dumplings, pan-fried, steamed or in a brew.  The restaurants’ holistic approach to sustainability is amazing: all their ingredients are coming from ecologically sustainable agriculture. All food is vegetarian or vegan. Also, the restaurant only uses green energy.

Momos was on my bucket list for a really long time, not least because they really stand for a conscious, sustainable lifestyle. They even have a certificate that proves that all their ingredients are ecologically grown. Furthermore, I really like places that focus on one dish – and bring it to perfection. Last Saturday, I finally made it there with a dear friend. The restaurant has a clean, but warm interior design with industrial lamps, plants, and wooden walls.  You order your food directly at the counter.

Welcome to dumpling paradise

Momos are little dumplings, originally coming from Nepal. Momos offers six different kinds of fillings at the moment: spinach-sheep cheese, fresh cheese-potato, broccoli-shiitake-tofu, potato-cabbage-carrot, pumpkin-chickpea, and mushroom-potato. Except from the two cheesy ones, they are all vegan, as well as the dips: a spicy tomato dip, a creamy lemon mint dip, and a light soy sesame sauce.

As we couldn’t decide what to pick, we agreed on sharing a “Momos Experience”, which contains 24 dumplings (all fillings, half pan-fried, half steamed) with three sauces.

It was such a pleasure to eat this mixed plate together because even if the dough of the dumplings has slightly different colors, you couldn’t be entirely sure which filling you picked. The dips were pretty good, but both my friend and me were missing a viscous, savory sauce, something like hoisin sauce, maybe. My absolute favorite was the mushroom-potato dumpling. My friend loved spinach-sheep cheese the most. The taste of all the Momos was very well composed, there were spicy ones, creamier fillings and so on. You clearly notice that the Momo crew absolutely knows their business!

I can tell you – Momos will see me more often in the future! I definitely want to try the soup version in the future. I’ll keep you posted!
