Offering a big variety of homemade cake – vegan ones among them – and specialty coffee, Café Fred enriches Würzburgs city center. The beautiful café inspired by Scandic design is a great place for Picky Eaters and their friends to get together.
I was visiting my family last week and we spent a nice afternoon in Würzburg. The perfect chance to test one of Würzburgs cafés. Following the advice of my mom, we went to Café Fred.
Escaping the heat of the day, Café Fred welcomed us with its brick walls and airy combination of grey chairs, little wooden tables and industry lamps. After sitting down, we chose cappuccino, ice chocolate with cream and a homemade lemonade with mint and elderflower for drinks. Especially the lemonade was very refreshing and the perfect treat after a long stroll through the city.
Craving cake, we had a look at the cake cabinet. Normally, Café Fred offers eight to ten different sorts of homemade cake, at least all the crumble cakes being vegan. They experiment a lot with new vegan creations, e.g. chai cheesecake and coconut carrot cake. Amazing!
We ordered a berry crumble, an apple crumb cake and a decadent piece of double chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream. The apple cake was vegan. Of cause, I tried all of them. The berry crumble was very well-balanced between sweet and sour notes. The apple cake had some cinnamon in it and almonds in the crumbs, delicious. And the chocolate cake – oh my – I think I never had a cake in my life that had so much chocolate in it. Death by chocolate.
As we visited Café Fred in the afternoon, we didn’t try the broad selection of breakfast offers, including almond milk porridge with apple, Fred’s homemade granola and vegan scrambled eggs, but also classic breakfast combinations including ham, cheese and eggs. Next time when I am in Würzburg, I will definitely give it a try. I’ll keep you posted!
